Westwinds Parents Policy
(Responsibilities as per the Education Act)
Gobind Sarvar expects all parents to support a welcoming, respectful, and safe learning environment. In accordance with the Education Act, parents share responsibility for their child’s success and well-being at school.
Parents are expected to:
Take an active role in their child’s learning and support them in meeting school expectations.
Contribute to a welcoming, caring, respectful, and safe school environment.
Work collaboratively with teachers and school staff, especially when specialized supports or services are involved.
Maintain positive, respectful relationships with all staff, students, and families.
Model peaceful problem-solving and take responsibility for mistakes.
Report concerns to the teacher promptly—issues are easier to resolve early.
Participate in the school community whenever possible.
Examples of supportive conduct include:
Speaking respectfully to and about school staff.
Speaking positively about the school and community in front of your child.
Booking appointments for discussions (drop-off and pick-up times are not appropriate).
Communicating regularly with teachers through notes, emails, or scheduled meetings.
Please note: Meeting requests with administration may be declined if the homeroom or subject teacher has not first been informed of the concern.
To ensure effective and timely problem-solving:
Step 1: Bring any academic or behavioural concerns to the Homeroom/Subject Teacher first.
Step 2: If the concern is unresolved, request a meeting with the Vice Principal.
Step 3: If further escalation is required, the Vice Principal will determine whether the Principal should join or schedule a joint meeting.
This process ensures clear communication and allows teachers—who work closest with your child—to provide necessary context and support.
Decisions or consequences involving other students cannot be shared with parents. This protects the privacy and dignity of all students.
